Arizona

Arizona

I've seen to Arizona several times and i like it more and more, the more i visit.

1978- When i was in college, I had this idea that i wanted to live in arizona one day.  i had never been there but i just thought i would love it it.  so i graduated form college, saved up my money and moved there.  i took the greyhound bus.  it took 2 1/2 days in sweaty, smelly bus stations.  i got there, got an apartment, got a bed and a job and just didnt like any of it.  A month later, I was home and this dream was dead.

1n 1990, my friend gave a presentation in Phoenix around Thanksgiving.  Four of us were there to support him.  We all decided that we would forfeit Thanksgiving with our families and all talked that it didnt matter to us. As the day progressed, we all became sentimental about the moment and later found ourselves as some sleezy chain resturant where we gorged ourselves on the mediocre buffet and laughed at ourselves.

2012- I has here for a weekend meeting.  I left a blizzard in MD and came here to a friend's house where it was so bright that I had to wear my sunglasses inside her house.

2018- My 15 year old nephew and I went exploring northern Arizona.  He wanted to see a desert so we went to the Painted Desert.  We also explored Antelope Canyon, one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen in the world.

2021- I was driving through the historical Route 66 and found my way in Winslow, Arizona, taking it easy.

Borneo, Jakarata, Bali

This was a great trip.  We started in Boreno and hung with the orangutans.  We made our way to Jakarata which is a city that didnt interst me much.  And then we were off to beautiful Bali.

I was with a tour group of 8 people and mostly we got along.  There was an 86 year old woman who was traveling alone and needed help with everyone and she counted on, almost demanded the kindness of strangers. I will remember this woman as I continue to travel.

Valley of the Fire

Valley of Fire State Park
Nevada
January 7, 2022

Last year, I decided I wnated to apply for a permit to hike the Wave in AZ. It's a fragile geogological site that only lets 20 visitors in for a day. It's a three mile hike in to get to the site and the hiking is strenuous. After careful consideration, I decided that this hike was too much for me and it was now time to look elsewhere for new places to explore.  And then I read about the Valley of the Fire so I booked a flight and checked it out.  And I loved it.  It was beautiful and similar to the Wave in structure and color and beauty. And I could hike it without much effort.

Fetching Water

Fetching Water

Guatamela

Spring 2011

As much as I have traveled, I never get used to seeing how many people in our world have to struggle every day to secure drinkable water.  When I return home after haven been in a developing country, I am adamant about drinking water directly from the facet.  I refuse to drink any water that is filtered or bottles.  I want to celebrate the luxury that I live in a country that has access to clean, drinking water available to me right in my home.
