Altitude Brewery

Altitude Brewery

Larmie, WY

Summer 2017

I love to go to breweries around the country in search of the perfect IPA. What I liked best about this place was the bartender's blunt honesty.  He told me that their IPA was lousy and so I didn't order it.

A Shitload of Miles

A Shitload of Miles

My Honda Element. It was a 2004. I bought it in 2008 with 45,000 miles on it. I paid less than $15,000 for the vehicle. In 2017, it picked up a funny, funky noice and I lost confidence it in. The next day, I trained it in and it had 243,000+ miles. I was hoping to reach 250,000 by the mile I got rid of it. I got $1250 cash for the car which I thought was pretty darn good.

Bugs

Bugs

My Back Yard and Other Places

I wonder what my neighbors think of me as I room my yard, crotched over the bushes, taking photos of what seems to be nothing of any significance. But I love to search for bugs, find them, marvel at them and photograph them.

4th of July Parades

 4th of July Parades

USA

I love local 4th of July parades.  There should be no big parades on this day.  All parades should stem from the community and include everyone.  All of the floats should be silly and homemade.

But the fireworks, that's a different story. The fireworks should be managed by a community organization and large, loud and plentiful.

Beach Fires

 Beach Fires

What is it about beach fires that are so alluring.  I could sit for hours and watch a fire.  And if that fire can be as big as possible, all the better.

Gloria Has A Summer Internship

Gloria has A Summer Internship

Sias Uinversity

henan Province, China

Summer 2013

In the spring 2012, I taught leadership skills to a group of women at a university in China.  As a result of thier participation, they have met many international mentors. I continue to be amazed at the variety of options that have been made available to these women from the most rural communities in Chinas. Gloria is one student who has benefitted immensely.  Here is a recent email form her:

Hi Bridget,

Actually, I'm not certain about my summer internships.

Andrea told me that I'll have two internships, one is to learn under Bonita about helping village women to develop entrepreneurship; another is to learn marketing under a great man who used to work for Nike.
This is perfectly aligned with my 15-year goal -- learning and practicing marketing skills and then serve as a consultant to help women and special kids to buildup their careers.

During my visit to Beijing, I heard many experts and Dr.s talked about advocacy. Parents keep pushing the society to provide help and rights for kids with special needs. For many charities, the emergency is an advocacy team to help them market their causes. also using business structure can make a not-profit-organization more effective and practical.

I'll confirm them with Bonita and keep you posted.

How are you now? I'd love to know more about your current life!

Hugs!
Gloria

The War Is Finally Over

The War Is Finally Over

The End of the Afghanistan War

August 31, 2021

After 20 years we have finally, finally pulled out of Afghanistan. I wasn't sure this was ever going to happen. But it did. Here is my Facebook post on that day:

The war is finally over. Thanks to my two nephews who served in the Middle East, the 1000’s and 1000’s who were injured, the too numerous soldiers and civilians who died. But right now, my heart goes out to all of our Gold Star families. May they never feel as if their horrific loss was in vain. #USA #Afghans #Soldiers

He sat on top of all of his worldly possessions and read a book. He held a sign which begged for money. But he was so engrossed in his novel that he was oblivious to all who passed him by.

The Mayor

This white pelican walked around the island as if he was the mayor. People greeted him, feed him and got out of his way.

The Day After The Election

The Day After The Election
USA
November 4, 2020

It's midmorning and the results still aren't in. I'm alone in my apartment but I can feel the tension in my country. It's in me. I am about to implode. It's on social media which I am trying to discipline myself to ignore today so that I don't drive myself crazy with worry. And then I hear a bing, a notice of a text message from a friend. She is checking in with me.

Typing my fingers off damning Trump supporting friends and family and looking down my long elitist nose at gun toting Trump caravans and every house have seen sporting a big Trump flag. We are in deep shit and I think Biden will win. But I have a plan.

What is your plan?

If you look at the map all of the blue states so far are either on one ocean or are contiguous to one on the ocean. I think all those periphery states should secede from the nation and join Canada. They are much nicer people

I’m no longer giving my vacation money to a red state; I guess we will have to move out of Florida.

Actually this election is so close that we should recommend that the r’s stay on the right side of a state and the S’s live on the left.
