Coming ot the USA
From China to Chicago
Spring 2014
Selia is a former student of mine from China. In 2012, I went to Sias Univeristy and taught global leadership skills to college women. Their desire to be part of the gloabl scene stunned me as most of thiese women came from small villages all over China. Many of them were eager to come to the USa or Europe to earn Master's degrees.
Selia wrote to me yesterday. Once again, she has convinced someone to take a chance on her and give her a six month internship here in the USA. In July, she will be working with a firm in Chicago. Her housing will be provided. She will make $750/week and she will get a $125/ week stipend for food. That's more than what some college graduates are making.
The only drawback: no health or dental insurance and she is very worried about this issue. In China, everything is covered. Last year, while she was here, four of her teeth went bad and she had to have them filled for $2000. That is roughly 2000 meals in China. That hurt. If she can't figure out how to get insurance, she may not come over.
SELIA IS A GO-GETTER
