March 5, 2005

  March 5, 2005

      Springfield, PA

Sharon called me at 6:00 AM.  So I know it is an emergency. “Dad’s been rushed to the hospital, he’s passed out”, she tells me ever so sadly. “Stay by your phone, it doesn’t look good.  I’ll call you again when I have more information.”

She hung up and I resigned myself to the thought that he has died.  An hour later, she calls to confirm my suspicions.  “We are all at the hospital.  Dad is still here with us . We can wait until you get here before we move him.  Do you want to come over right now?”  I tell her “no” and hang up the phone.  I let out a sigh of relief that he died quickly, before his dreadful cancer had a chance to eat him up.

RIP Bill Brown, you were a lovable goof ball and a wonderful teacher. Springfield HS will never be the same. I feel hollow today.

That is a good way to describe it. The world seems a little less bright today. The whole community is feeling this loss.

Vicki Murphy-Kendall  -  Just can't get over this. Not right.....too young...loved Bill Brown...taught with him for several years...in the same classroom....he had courage and authenticity that most of us do not have..
