Ducks on Ice

It was a cold day and it was fun to watch these birds as they sat on the freezing ice as if this was a refreshing moment for them. The image reminded me of a Norman Rockwell painting. I thought these birds were beautiful. And then I became to calculate how much they were defecating on the ice. And the thought of all this shit just eventually making its way to the bottom of the river, where I walk and swim in the spring, sort of made me want to throw up.

St Petersburg

 St Petersburg

Russia
Spring 2013

The architecture of the city was beautiful. The food was delicious. The people were reserved. The vibe was scary. I enjoyed my visit and I was a bit relieved to leave.

Copenhagen, Denmark

 Copenhagen, Denmark

Spring 2013

I only had one day in Denmark so we went to the part of town that is notorious for selling cannabis  in the open. At this time, it was illegal to sell pot but the police looked the other way because this little part of town had become such a tourist attraction.  So busloads of people stopped by each day.  We were not allowed to take any photos and many of the merchants had all of their merchandise on a study sheet that could be gathered up securely at the moment's notice in the event the cops came by and tried to maintain some superficial semblance of law and order. The merchants could flee quickly and securely.

I didn't buy anything.

Red Clay Beach, MD

Red Clay Beach
Cecil County, MD
Elk Creek River
The Mouth of the Chesapeake Bay
Winer 2013

This beach was on the other side of the North East River, where I lived.  Maybe 50 people live around this beach. It was a creepy little area filled with rundown shacks that could be abd should be condemned. And then there are spatterings of newly renovated, expensive beach homes. Everyone who lives here, doesn't want the place to be discovered. The haves and the have-nots seem to be OK with this co-existence.

I had thought of buying a place here but I didnt have it in me to buy a place and them tear it down and rebuild.  So I bought something across the river.

But I liked to come to this beach in the winter, when the river was frozen and as the sun was setting because it was just beautiful.

Boston Cops

Facebook Post

As a point of reference, this is the day after a bomb was detonated at the Boston Marathon.  The event was devastating and the police stepped up and found the two murderers with a speed and diligence that was admirable..

Today, I am thankful for all of the Boston police and special agents who are putting themselves on the front line to keep our country as safe as possible.

Me too! Sarah ran the race and finished before the bombings but her husband was just two blocks away. We have so much to be thankful for. My prayers to those who are grieving.
