Whenever adults speak to me in deeply personal religious terms, such as referring to Jesus as their “lord and savior,” I feel a cringy disconnect because it resonates with me in much the same way young kids speak to me about the magic of Santa Claus. I understand that these beliefs are deeply meaningful to so many people. But it's hard to listen to them talk with so much confidence, assumption and righteousness.
