The Responsibility of Voting
PA Primary Election
May 17, 2022
Today is an election day in PA. We have a lot of candidates on the ballot. So, prior to going to the polls, I double checked my list of candidates I wanted to select. Even though I have voted in every election since 1973, voting always makes me nervous. I feel as if my vote could be the deciding vote so I better not fuck up. I check and double check and finally surrender with butterflies in my stomach.
An old lady was in line, in front of me, and she was very demanding of everyone's time. She announced to everyone that she is a life time republican. She than was asked to produce photo ID as this was her first time she voted at this spot. This seemed to annoy her a bit. She struggled with that request. And she proceeded to empty her large purse and pull put numerous outdated IDs. She was getting annoyed but the poll worker reminded kind and patent adn sent me several nods of apologizes for the delay.
The old woman's companion stated that he just mailed his ballot in and it was so easy. She replied, "isn't that illegal. You cant do that." Everyone within earshot, responded in unison, "no."
She finally got her ballot and sat herself down at a table to fill out her ballot. Her companion hoveled over her and instructed her as to how to complete the form. She was very confused. A poll worker came over and told him that he had to fill out a form if he was going to assist her in the process. She claimed that he wasn't helping her. She could do it on her own. She then turned to him and asked, "who's running for senate. I dont even know who is running."
Oh, the beauty of the right to vote with none of the responsibility.
