July 2020
Coming Out of Quarantine
In the Green Phase and Wearing Masks
PA, DE, VA, SD, ND

1- W- PA

Today is my first day on medicare and I am so damn happy.  No more $120 co-pays for every damn doctor's visit.  No more $7500 yearly deductible.  No more $8400 yearly medical insurance costs. No more $500 emergency room co-pays.  No more pre-approvals of every damn procedure I needed.  I can now go back to taking care of my medical needs without fear.  I can be a normal medical care consumer.

It was a beautiful, sunny day. I spent too much time going to department stores and returning things I purchased yesterday. The stores' dressing rooms are not open yet. So I have to buy something and try it on at home. I have to stop all of this buying.

I met up with Steve and Phylis in the courtyard this evening. It was fun to sit out there. So far, people haven't come back to socializing here yet. Late this afternoon, the governor just issued a mandate that everyone has to wear a mask in public. This should stoke more concern in people. Until there is a vaccination, these masks are here to stay.

Tweet for the day: BREAKING NEWS: it’s been confirmed that trump can actually read. And to think, I just assumed he had no skills which qualified him to be president. I was wrong. He can read.

2nd tweet of the day: Today I'm on medicare. No more $120 co-pays for every damn doctor's visit or $7500 yearly deductible or $8400 yearly insurance bill or $500 emergency room co-pays. No more pre-approvals of every damn procedure. I can now take care of my medical needs without fear.

We had a a birthday party for me with Jaye, Dom , Sharon and Glenn at the Pedantes. This was the first time Sharon was out in public and it made me a little nervous. I don't think we were as careful as we could have been.

My Facebook Post: During these difficult times, may we all be so resilient. 3- W- PA
It was another gorgeous, hot day and I did not make it to the pool.

I watched Skin, the story of a Neo-Nazi who tries to leave this awful organization. The movie was disturbing to say the least.

I went shopping again and bought too much stuff. I'm buying blouses for some reason. This has to stop.

And then I went and bought two more pairs of prescription eyes glasses for $350. I have enough now.

Steve and Phylis gave me a birthday gift, a beer caddy. I love it.

I finally, finally started on my tax return. Why didn't I do this in March. Now I am going to be right down to the wire to get it done and it done it really didn't take me long to plow through all of my documents. Some days I just hate me.

Tweet: Trump needs to release his tax returns, his DNA, his physical exam results, his notes from his meetings with Putin and his cognitive test.

4- SA- PA

This was a very flat 4th of July. There didn't seem to be anything to celebrate as a nation. We are so divided. The COVID virus still looms so heavily in the air. Everyone I encounter talks of Trump with distain and exhaustion.

Tricia threw a family birthday party for me. Bill and Lauren were also there and it was nice to be remembered.

5- SU- PA

I spent most of the day getting ready for my upcoming road trip with Clay. I will be gone for 8 days so I did laundry, washed the dishes and overwatered my garden. I have high hopes that the garden will survive for the week.
6- M- PA/VA

I got up and started my journey to VA to pick up Clay. It took me 6 hours hours toto get to VA. Jameson was there. It's his birthday. But he couldn't stay long as he had to get back to his assignment with the National Guard. They are somewhere, distribution PPE equipment to nursing homes in VA.

Tomorrow, Clay and I are headed to the wild Dakotas for a few days. North Dakota is my 49th state to visit. I only have Hawaii left.

7- TU- VA/MD

Gus and I went for brunch while Clay took a long run. Then Clay and I headed to BWI for a Wednesday AM flight to Bismarck. Since we were near Baltimore, we decided to go for a seafood dinner and we both had lobster and crab cakes. It was an easy day of doing nothing but getting started on our journey.

8- W- ND

We traveled all day. We had breakfast at the airport and then a flight to Dallas with a two hour layover. Then we had a flight to Bismarck and then we picked up our car and it was 8 PM already. We found a place near the Missouri River for Clay to run and I ran out and got drinks for the next few days. Afterwards we went for a swim and a soak in the hot tub and that was the day.

On a positive note, the salesperson at the car rental place made a comment about my birthday so I asked him he had any birthday discount for me since I was turning 65. He said no but then he paused and went to the back room and switched out my car from a IKA to a midnight, metallic black, convertible Chevy Camaro. This car was beautiful.

9- TH- ND/SD

It's my birthday. I am now 65 years old, a senior citizen, an old fart. How did this happen to me???? Sharon arranged a zoom call and she insisted that everyone make a video for me. Clay and I had to find some place where we could find a free wifi connection.

Tweet  Today is my birthday and I just found out I share a birthday with Lindsay Graham. That news put a little bit of a damper on the day.
We went to Miner's Brewery and I really didn't like the place. This place filled my SD requirement for a brewery in every state.

10- F- SD

We had a very busy day. Our first stop was Mount Rushmore which is a place that Clay really wanted to see and like me, was underwhelmed with the moment.  We then went to the Crazy Horse monument which was a big ripoff. It was expensive and barely recognizable. I think it should take them another 150 years to finish. They need many more sculptors to finish this monument.

We drove two hours to have inner with Jerrie and Jessie. It was great to see Jessie again. She was my student in China in 2015. Of all the things I taught her, she remembers how to shake hands and reached this skill at leadership workshops she attends.

After dinner, we headed south with the intent of finding a hotel. Somehow we got a little lost and found ourselves riding through the Bandlands. It was really dark. At one point, Clay saw a porcupine on the side of the road. So I reversed the car and he hung out the window with his phone flashlight glaring and we tried to find the porcupine again but no luck. We noticed lots of birds flying. Clay thought they were hawks but I said they were owls. And with that, an owl flew right up to our windshield and spread its wings and just hovered in front of us for several minutes. It was magical. I felt like we were in the midst of a Harry Potter movie.

Then, I saw something glean to the right of our window.  It was a bison eyeball.  Suddenly a herd of trotting bison emerged and roamed right in front of our car. OMG, I was so scared. At any moment, they could have stampeded us.

Once we ere settled with a hotel room for the night, we saw that a rodeo was going on right near us. We quickly got in our car and went to find it. But as soon as we got here, it was over and we lamented this missed opportunity.

11- SA- SD/ND

We had a fun day in the Badlands. After last night, I thought we would just drive through them for an hour or so and then make out way up to Bismarck. Shortly after entering the park, we found an area where you can wander around theses structures. So Clay went his way and started climbing up and I went my way and started walking cautiously on the low land areas.

Kathy sent a text with her new grandchild: Genevieve Grace Staudt. She arrived a week early and was 7 pounds and healthy. What a great moment. I can see Kevin in her already.

We finished the night at Bismarck Brewery for dinner.

12- SU- ND/VA

We were in flight all day. We were up early for breakfast and then we headed to the airport. Our first flight was to Dallas. We had a layover that gave us enough time for a great Mexican lunch. Then we had a flight to Baltimore and we were on the road, back to VA by 7:30 PM and we got back to the Kellys by 10:30. They all waited up for us so we could tell our stories. It was a fun trip.

13- M- VA/PA

Clay made me breakfast and Cindy and the boys and I sat around the kitchen table for a bit before I headed out to take my long drive home. It's funny to see these boys as young men. How did this happen to me? When did they grow up? I wish I could stop this.

My ride home was pleasant even though it was long. I think it took close to 7 hours because I made a few unnecessary stops along the way. But I didn't buy anything so that was good.

14- TU- PA

I slept in my own bed after a week on the road and I love to wake up in my own bed. I love all of my pillows.

I checked on my garden and discovered that a week of abandonment had a devastating effect on all of my plants. They are all near death and they should probably just be thrown away.

I got my new eyeglasses and I love one pair and am surprised with my choice of sunglasses. They aren't my style. I wonder what I was thinking. But I like the new variety.

15- W- PA

It's Tax Day and my taxes aren't done. I sent in for an extension and now I have until October 2020 to finish them and if i take that much time to get my paperwork together, I will be so damn annoyed with myself. I have about an hour of work left before I can submit my paperwork to an accountant. I have to move my ass on this one.

I reconnected with Ladon in China. We hadn't talked for two weeks because we were both traveling. She can't find a job so she is committed to improving her physical health, She has herself on a new workout schedule so now I have to call her at night which means I have to get up at 9:30 so that I can call her at 10AM.

I went to the damn Sierra Trading Store and bought more shit that I do not need. I love that store. I am so sorry I found it. I can not keep going there and buying unnecessary travel gadgets.

16- TH- PA

I couldn't soothe myself today. I couldn't figure out what to do. I wanted to go somewhere but most things are still closed so I had nowhere to go. So, I went food shopping. Now I have enough food for months.

I did get my free earphones that I have to review on Amazon and I love them. They are so lightweight and noninvasive. I barely know I have them on.

Twitter comment: When I was in India, I notice a trash pile. Wild pigs are working their way through the pile, searching for food. Then I see an old lady, climbing up the top. She is competing with wild pigs to find that one edible morsel of food to sustain her. What's wrong with our world!

17- F- PA/DE

I had dinner with Jaye, Dom, Andrea. It's just great getting back together again.

CARE.org sent me a care package. They sent a tote bag, a diary book and a pen. I don't need any of them and I hate the thought that this money could have fed a family today.

It was hot but I didn't go to the pool. I have to get there one of these days.

Congressman John Lewis died today. He certainly was a brave person who stood up to injustices more than he needed to do.

18- SA- PA/DE

OMG, it was hot today. It was around 100 but the humidity pushed it up to 103. Damn. And for some reason, I was too damn lazy to put on my bathing suit and get in to the pool. What's wrong with me.
RIP John Lewis. I had the privilege of meeting him in 2015. #JohnLewis

I had a 3:15 appointment at the Apple store in Delaware to get my old computer paired with my new computer. Unfortunately, I had trouble sleeping last night so I did not get up until 2:45 and the drive to the store is 45 minutes so I showed up very late and I had an appointment to speak to a salesperson, not an IT person so I didn't get any damn help and left with a phone appointment for next Wednesday.

19- SU- PA

OMG, it is hot. I went to the pool for the first time this season. I didn't go until 6 and the water was still warm.

I made a quick run to Lauren's apartment and we switched off things that we don't want anymore. I gave her two beach chairs and a big candle holder and she gave me a small, wire shelf. We have our own recycling thing going on here.

20- M- PA

OMG, it's hot today. But I didn't go to the pool for some strange reason. It's right there, right outside my balcony but I am too damn lazy. I can be my own worse enemy.

I found out that one of my high school classmates died two years ago. She had written to our group to tell us that she had been assaulted, suffered a brain injury and was now homeless. She must have died alone. There is no obituary and it appears as if the public notice didn't come out until a year after she died. In high school, it appeared as if she had ti all because she came form money and successful parents. But really, she didn't have anything.

Twitter: The top 3 police states in the world: China, Russia and now the USA. Shame on us.

21- TU- PA

OMG, it is hot.  It was so hot that I actually went to the pool in the middle of the afternoon, in the middle of the heat wave because I had to cool off.  It was so damn sunny.

22- W- PA

I had dinner with Debbie.  We hadn't seen each other for awhile. We ran over to the Social Club in the midst of a rain storm,  I didn't care.  It was just nice to get out.  As we entered the restaurant, I made a comment to Debbie about the governor's new mandate on sitting at the bar.  It's out now that we have had a slight surge in COVID cases these last few weeks.  Some stranger overheard my comment and responded to me, "Fuck Wolf."  He was surprised when I announced that I supported the governor.

And on other political news:  Trump is out of control.  He had secret police infiltrating Portland, OR and attacking and arresting civilians.  Mothers arrived to support the protesters and they are chanting, "Hand up, please don't shoot me. The song is haunting.

My Tweet: So is trump starting a civil war?

23- TH- PA

I ran errands today and I did it with so much lethargy that I really didn't get a lot done.  But I now have my new EZ pass for PA.  I've been using my MD pass for 3 years now.

As part of a Residents' Appreciation event, a food truck pulled up in our parking lot and made us hot dogs and hamburgers. I ran in to Jon and I feel like a stranger.

Tweet: As she got on the elevator, she looked straight at me and said in deep despair, "I am out of words to describe him anymore. Demonic isn't strong enough. What is he doing to us in Portland?"

I got the first of two shingles vaccinations. I am not taking any chances this year with the virus. I'm also getting the flu shot and the pneumonia shot as well.

24- F- PA

I am involved with a podcast that is riveting so I stayed up through most of the night and listen to it, Somebody Knows Something. Then I spent in too late and I didn't get much done. I ran a few errands and was mostly unsuccessful. I came home and laid down and listened again to my podcast because I had too many gapping holes in the story because I feel in and out of sleep as I attempted to listen and then the damn day was over. The story was about a young man who went missing and someone has confessed to aiding the killer in cremating this man. It was gruesome.

My Apple watch arrived today. Now I have one more thing that I have to charge and manage.

I made it to the pool. I don't know why it took me so long to get there this summer. It's always so pleasant when I go there.

25- SA

I dropped my new computer off to be fixed. I can't get all of my data rolled over from my old laptop and this is maddening.

My garden is dreadful. This heat is just killing it.

26- SU- PA/NJ

I went to 3 breweries with Mary Graham. It was a perfect day to just sit outside and drink beer. I love, love, love to sit in a bar and drink beer all afternoon. Of course, we had to sit outside only.

Red, White and Brew Brewery- I loved the vibe of the place.
Westville Brewery- This place was just ok
King's Road Brewery- I liked this place but we were a bit rushed because the place was about to close. Te beers were good.

AMAZON REVIEW ITEM- I am getting ridiculous with my Amazon beta testing. Today a huge beach sheet and a heavy tactical safety kit both showed up for free. And I love them both.

27- M- PA/DE

I started the day with a zoom call to China with Kathy Flatley, my student and her student. I thought the conversation was strained but the young women seemed to enjoy it.

I spent all afternoon in the pool. The water was a perfect temperature. The sun wasn't too bright. But it was a real effort to maintain any sort of social distancing. And my friends didn't seem to care about this requirement. I couldn't get them to give me space.

I went dinner with Jeff, Debbie and Phyllis to a pizza place. Steve wouldn't come with us. We ordered way too much food and we all came home with another meal.

AMAZON REVIEW ITEM- I got an adapter for my new computer which I have to review for Amazon. I have to stop it with all of this free shit. I am accumulating so much junk in my apartment.

A Tweet: Do you think she plans to bury him in the Rose Garden???? #TrumpHatesWomen #TrumpleThinSkin
Responding to @katierogers Melania Trump will revamp the Rose Garden

28- TU- PA/DE

I went back to the computer store and it appears as if the transfer of data finally went through.  But when I got home, I discovered that my password has been changed and I am not able to change it on my own.  I just don't have the energy to continue to deal with this pain in the ass.

I had two zoom meetings today and that is too much for one day.  One was with CARE and the other was with Great Dames. I can't keep my interest.

AMAZON REVIEW ITEM- a cordless vacuum for my car. I love it.  I gave it five stars.

My Tweet: #WhyIDontLikeTrump    He grabs women by the pussy.
Responding to @fred_guttenberg-  Twitter friends, let's answer the current occupant of the White House and let's get #WhyIDontLikeTrump trending.   Let's make it # 1.

29- W- PA

I met Deb Green and Mary in a bar along the Delaware River in Philadelphia.  There was a comfortable breeze.  The sun was beginning to set. The food was mediocre and the service was lousy. But, I did get to sit outside and have a beer.  However, I ordered two IPAs together and the young woman really misunderstood because she had the bartender mix the two together rather than bring me two different beers.  I hate when non-beer drinkers try to serve me beers.

I finished my audiobook, Pale Face Liar, by David Crow. The story was too outrageous and the father character was not believable.

30- TH- PA

My new gravity lounge chair came today.  Now I have too much furniture on my balcony. And I hate to give up my Aderondeck chair just yet because it is not completely falling apart,  But it has to go.

I went down to the pool around 4:30.  In the past, I always had the pool to myself but there are new people and they are invading my space.  They want to chitchat a little bit and I want to be left alone.

I need to get my hair cut.  It's been five months and I can put my hair in a pony tail.

Obama gave a eulogy at Congressman Lewis' funeral and now too many of us are lamenting our deep sorrow for the current poor excuse of a president.  Obama's words were beautiful.  He is a class act.

Trump floated the idea that he may postpone the election due to the virus.  I hate him.  He is such an idiot.

My tweet: Madame Speaker, may we please vote tomorrow? #TrumpResign #TrumpIsAnIdiot #TrumpCantChangeTheElection

Responding to Nancy Pelosi, @SpeakerPelosi
Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution states: “The Congress may determine the Time of choosing the Electors, and the Day on which they shall give their Votes; which Day shall be the same throughout the United States.” twitter.com/realDonaldTrump

I hit 24,000 followers on Twitter.

31- F- PA

I was my usual lazy ass today.  I texted with one of my Bangladesh students for the better part of an hour to prepare for our zoom call on Sunday only to discover that we are in the midst of another big religious holiday.  So I postponed the meeting for another week.

Congressman John Lewis left a message for the American people which he requested that it be read at his funeral.  I listened to it today.  It was beautiful. He spoke of courage and unity and love for one another.  I am hungry for this type of national leadership.

I really need to clean my apartment but mostly I did next to nothing, a few dishes and a little laundry.  I am so fucking lazy.

My Tweet:  GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH! #BLM #BLMprotest

Responding to Rep. Jim Jordan- Can’t go to church. Can’t go to work.  Can’t go to school. Even Dr. Fauci says protesting is dangerous. But Democrats encourage people to riot and protest in the streets.

I am hanging in the lounge again.  It's been a while because of the pandemic and it is no longer part of my routine. I just don't see people in my apartment.

I was finally, finally, finally approved for a credit card.  I haven't had a credit card in 20 years.  And I don't have a mirage or student loans or a car d payment so my credit rating is terrible.  Now I have an Amazon card.  Now I will be eligible for an airline flight card where I will be eligible to earn travel miles.
