Super Bowl Champs
February 2018
I am not a football fan but like everyone else in the Philadelphia area, I was excited for this year's super bowl. And the outcome was more fun than I had imagined. I watched the game in my apartment building, in the lobby with 30 other people. And when we won, I could hear the excitement erupt on the streets. I grabbed my coat and went out and joined the crowd. Instantly, hundreds of people were parading down the streets. Cops were everywhere and people were drunk and euphoric. I ducked in to a local bar to get away from the crowd but this place was just as crowded as the streets.
This bar, which is usually empty, was wall to wall with large, boisterous, drunk, proud, friendly men who wanted to keep a chanting celebration going as long as they could. One man pounded his fist on the bar and my pint glass was slightly air-borne. He offered to buy me another drink but I took that as my cue to get the hell out of here and off the streets before I accidents got hurt.
The parade was a few days later and that event promised to be full of potential fun, danger, drunkenness and Philly pride. It was 36F and sunny. But I didn't go. It was reported that there would be 1 porter-pottie for every 10,000 people. It was too cold. Budweiser was giving out lots of free beers so I just knew to many people would be drunk. Instead, I found a nice bar in the suburbs and had a parade flight of beer.
Eagles parade flight. God bless the eagles.
