Decorating For Christmas

Decorating For Christmas
Middlebrook, VA
December 2006

I am at my brother’s house and we decide to decorate for Christmas.  The boys are more than happy to help and immediately pull every decoration out.  The place quickly becomes a mess. As we’re sorting through things, my sister-in-law remembers that she hasn’t taken her family Christmas photo yet. So, we come up with a brilliant idea a wrapping the boys up in Christmas lights. We think this might be a fun photo. Then we plug in the lights and turn off the ceiling lights off. That creates a great effect.

We begin to shoot photo after photo. The boys twist and turn and offer us serious faces and silly faces. And we’re having great fun and laughing the whole time until we hear Clay, the 4-year-old, whisper so sadly and painfully, “hot, Mom, hot". And then we realize maybe we’re burning this kid. So, we quickly decide to put this idea to rest.
