Summer 2013
We could only take so many kids for camp each day because we only had so much space and food. We tried to cap it at about 100 kids. To do that, we sent a driver to the tent city everyday to pick up the kids and only those kids who got in his car were allowed to attend. He always came back with just a few too many kids. Once, he had 27 kids in his station wagon in one run. We watched he gingerly take these kids out of his car while one of us stood there and counted them out loud.
One day, these kids didn't get selected to come to camp so they walked three miles, in the stinking hot heat, in hopes of joining us for the day. They were desperate to get in because they knew we would feed them. We let them in.
