Day of the Dead Celebration

Mexico

November 2, 2025

My friend insisted I try this beverage. She claims everyone in Mexico drinks it. So I blindly and dutifully tried it. We were given a pint styrofoam cup and offered various mixers of coffee, hot chocolate, strawberry powder cinnamon, sugar, powdered milk and other unknown powdered. We were told to add as many of these powders as we lie. I picked a teaspoon of hot chocolate and a teaspoon of coffee and shrugged my shoulders. I didn't know what I was doing. Then the man pulled out a gallon of water and asked my friend, "two shots or one shot?" She told him she was a big girl so he pours out two shots and dumped it in to her cup. It was tequila. He also gave me two shots as well. Nikki paid him $2 for both cups.

We were then instructed to go over the cow. Nikki went first and a farmer quickly tied up the hind legs of the cow and milked her until Nikki's cup was full. He then reached over and took my cup and filled it as well.

Nikki looked at me and I looked at her and we laughed and tapped our cups together and offered "cheers". With trepidation, I slowly took a sip. It was warm which startled me. I was expecting cold milk.  We drank in small sips and it wasn't bad but it wasn't necessarily good. Nikki didn't finish her cup because the presence of tequila was pronounced and she had to drive. I finished mine and began calculating when I should expect to suffer the consequences of drinking raw milk.
