Bridget:

I'm usually sorry to have missed an email, but this one is different.  I'm actually glad to have missed it,even though we both ended up driving a bit farther than either of us would have preferred. 

I thoroughly enjoyed spending the evening with you.  The conversation was excellent.  Interacting one-on-one has always been my comfort zone.  Standing in front of a class of 25-30 high school students became less intimidating everyday.  But I could always take solace in the fact that I generally knew more about the subject than anyone else inthe room; I was able to approach the class as performance art.  But even once I'd become comfortable with my students, I most preferred the one-on-one interactions that I'd built into the way class worked.

Thanks for the beer and the company.  I'm looking forward to the first faculty meeting of the year.
