My First Attempt at AI

My First Attempt At AI

August 2023

I was asked to write an article on why I chose to teach leadership skills to college women in Asia.  I put in the key words of "women" leadership skills" "meaningful work" and "retired educator".   Two minutes later this article emerged and with a few minutes of editing, the task was done.

In 2010, I retired.  I had been a high school principal for most of my career. During my career, I have witnessed the challenges and opportunities that young people face in today’s world. I have also seen the limitless potential and talent that women possess to make a positive difference in their communities and beyond. However, they were not always given the same opportunities as their male counterparts. That is why, after retiring from public education, I decided to dedicate myself to the important work of teaching global leadership skills to young women.

Global leadership skills are the abilities and attitudes that enable one to lead effectively in diverse and complex contexts. They include effective communication, trustworthiness, problem-solving, critical thinking, confidence, emotional intelligence, innovation, creativity, and strategic vision. These skills are important for women because they empower them to overcome barriers, seize opportunities, and create positive change in their fields of interest. As so much research has shown,  women leaders who exhibit wisdom and compassion have more engaged teams, drive better job performance, and save their organization millions of dollars as a result.

In my classes, I teach global leadership skills through a combination of theory and practice. I use case studies, simulations, role plays, and group projects to expose my students to real-world scenarios and challenges. I also invite guest speakers, mentors, and coaches to share their insights and experiences with my students. I encourage my students to reflect on their own strengths and areas for improvement, as well as to seek feedback from others. My goal is to help my students develop a growth mindset, a sense of purpose, and a vision for their future.

Teaching global leadership skills to young women has been so fulfilling for me because I believe that they have the potential and the responsibility to make the world a better place. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my knowledge and passion with them, and I am proud of their achievements and aspirations. I hope that they will continue to learn, grow, and lead with wisdom and compassion throughout their lives.

I have been a facilitator with WAFW in China, Nepal and Bangladesh. And now that the COVID restrictions have finally been lifted, I will return to China for my fifth assignment in December.  I can’t wait.  I look forward to another opportunity to meet and work with these young women who are filled with the passion and commitment to make the world a more just and fair world.
