What They Saw

What They Saw

In Their Lifetime

My grandparents:

Ida (1902-1986)

and

Jack (1900-1974)

When I think how much the world progressed in the 20th Century, I am a bit overwhelmed.  Recently, I was in Cape Coral, FL and went to visit Thomas Edition's house.  His neighbors were Ford and Goodrich. The three of them changed the lifestyles of everyone in the world. And I wonder how many new inventions today are just an expansion of inventions from this time.

Here are a few of the things that my grandparents saw in their lifetime:

  • WWI WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War
  • Man walking one the moon.
  • The Great Depression
  • Prohibition
  • The repeal of Prohibition
  • Hawaii became a state.
  • Alaska became a state.
  • Passage of the 16th, 17th 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th US Amendments
  • "Whites Only" laws
  • Civil Rights Laws
  • An Atomic Bomb was developed and dropped.
  • Smallpox vaccine was developed.
  • The Polio vaccine was developed.
  • Chemotherapy was developed.
  • Interstate highways were built.
  • The Golden Gate Bridge was built.
  • Hoover Dam was built.
  • The Empire State building was built.
  • The assassination of JFK
  • The attack on Pearl Harbor
  • The introduction of credit cards
  • The first commercial flight
  • The invention of the car, telephone, television, cameras, radios, light bulbs, anti-bodies, nuclear power,  computers, refrigerators, washers and dryers, vinyl albums, toaster ovens, transistor radio, vacuum cleaner, tea bags, ballpoint pens, zippers,
