Christmas Letter 2021
To My Friend
I haven't sent christmas cards since 2003. I never send a christmas letter and i receive very few cards and letters from people. But I consistently receive a letter from my friend, Suellen. So this year, I was moved to finally, finally, respond to her letter this year.
Happy New Year. I’ve been thinking of you and Jim today as I read about Bishop Tutu. What an impact he had on Semester At Sea.
Unlike so many people, I had a great 2021. First, I beat cancer. Last year at this time, I had uterine cancer and underwent surgery and radiation. And I am now cancer free!!!!!!!!! My sister, regretfully, was also diagnosed with cancer and at the moment, things look good for her as well. I can not say enough great things about our healthcare workers.
I took a huge trip across country (as you know). I also took 4 other, smaller road trip throughout the year as I am having such a hard time with travel limitations due to covid.
We added two beautiful babies to the family and a new nephew-in-law.
My nephew is the fasted high school boy in the state of VA. In the spring, he came in 2nd place in one state race and first place in two state races. I’m really proud of him.
I have been fortunate enough to dodge covid.
I’m taking a short hiking trip to Utah next week with my brother and his family. I already told them that I am not going to be able to keep up with them. My brother and his wife are only 50 and his son is the fastest boy in the state of VA. I expect to be exhausted by the time I get home.
Once Covid lets us move on, I want to return to China to teach one more time. I also want to book a trip to Rwanda to see the Silverback Gorillas before they are all gone and I am too old to take the trip. And a trip to Greenland is also on my radar. I cant wait to move on from this virus.
Stay healthy, stay sane. Enjoy the new year.
Bridget
