The Cabin

The Cabin
Sharon's Place
Centre County, PA

Sharon and Glenn bought this place in 2006.  It's thier second home.  I think it was built sometime around 1850. It's old. Plumbing and electricity were added at some point. It sits on an isolated creek where Glenn goes fly fishing on a regular basis.  This is his place of peace.  He retreats from all of us and hangs here by himself when he wants to recharge. But for Sharon, there isn't enough to do here.  So after two days of peace and quiet, she is ready to go home.

Whenever I go up there to visit, we do the same things. First thing in the morning, we have coffee on the back porch while Glenn makes us a big ass breakfast.  Then we take a leisrely stroll down to the creek. Afterwards, Sharon and I bicker about why I do not want to take a wake in the woods.

We then pile in the car and drive the 20 miles to Penn State University, our alma mater.  We roam the campus or go to some event.  But we always end up at the Creamery and indulge in a decadent amount of ice cream. I get a flaovr that tastes like an almond joy bar.  And if that isnt available, I get a coffee ice cream cone.

Sometime while we are in town, we make it to Zeno's, our favorite pub while we were in college.  There hasnt been one update to the pub since we left, voer 45 years ago, and we can just slip right back in to the memories of those days.

Maybe we will go somewhere for dinner or maybe Glenn will grill something at home. We drink another beer or two and by 10 PM, we all retreat to our corner of the house and rest up from our low key day.

And the next day, after breakfast, Sharon has us sign in to her guest book and document how we spent our time. And after breakfast, we head home.
