Road Trip #2022-01
Nevada and Utah
January 2 to January 8, 2022
I traveled with Brian, Cindy, Gus and Clay Kelly.
I thought we had dodged the holiday travel mob. But we didn't and we had unexpected airport crisis: on the way out, there was a two hour wait line to check in luggage. On the way back, our return flight was canceled at the last minute.
We flew in to Las Vegas. NV where it was sunny and lovely.
The first night we stayed at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel. There was an Eiffel Tower right outside our hotel and there was a hot air ballon there as well.
When we returned to our hotel, we stopped at the Bellagio Hotel to watch the Water Fountain Show. It was beautiful and the water danced to the music of Italian songs.
We walked the Strip, took the monorail, went to Caesar's Casino and found the the Fountain of the Gods.
Gus bet a dollar and won $20.
Brian bet $10 and won $40.
St George, UT was our first stop in Utah.
We stopped by Pioneer Park and had great fun as we all climbed around the slot canyon.
Zion National Park was our destination on Wednesday.
Coral Pink Sand Dunes Park was our Thursday event. We went sledding down the sleep sand dunes. The sand was beautiful and glistened with a gold, silky undertone.
The Sand Castle was a challenge, to varying degrees, for all of us. I never got out of the car. Brain and Cindy made it to the bottom of the climb. Gus made it to the first level but went no further. Clay went all the way to the top but struggled on the way don.
Valley of the Fire State Park, UT was stunning climb and a great substitute for the Wave, AZ.
The Zion Brewery, where I had three IPAs, met my Utah brewery obligation.
In Vegas we had a Bloody Mary Flights for lunch. i wish I had all afternoon to sit in this restaurant and drink this flight. But because of our schedule, I had to rush this moment and that was too bad because I really enjoyed this flight.
One afternoon, we stumbled across an animal sanctuary and there were acres and acres of grave sites for dogs and cats. It was creepy and spiritual at the same time.
I walked my ass off. Every day, we just walked and walked and walked. Typically, on my best day, I am walking 5,000 steps. So I really pushed myself on this trip. That's what I get fro traveling with younger people.
