A Message to All Voters
Bridget Kelly for State Senate
District 35, MD
November 2014
In 2014, I ran for state senate in Maryland. I didn't make it but i enjoyed the ride. Here is a message from my website:
A MESSAGE TO ALL VOTERS
Dear Neighbors in District 35:
On November 4th you will be asked to go into a polling booth and make decisions that will affect Cecil and Harford Counties for the next four years. It is a decision I know you won’t take lightly. I am running to become your State Senator, and know that I don’t take your decision lightly either. For me, it isn’t merely a matter of earning your vote; I am also seeking to earn your trust, not just through my words but also my actions. I truly believe that a state senator must reach across party boundaries, and represent every voter regardless of affiliation: every voice matters, every voice heard.
As your State Senator, I cannot begin to serve your needs without taking the time to get to know you and what your concerns are for Cecil and Harford Counties. So I’ve spent the last year traveling: to town halls, to libraries, to veterans’ hospitals, to the Chesapeake, to NAACP meetings, to churches, to schools, to neighborhoods, to businesses, to prisons, to homes. As a result, I have been fortunate enough to speak with leaders, farmers, parents, teens, educators, veterans, prisoners, homeless, chamber of commerce representatives and religious personnel. I’ve heard great ideas on many issues including how to restore economic justice through job creation and expansion, to preserve and maintain the Chesapeake Bay and to provide Pre-K through 12 educational opportunities for all our children. Different perspectives, yes, but with a unifying purpose: strengthen Cecil and Harford Counties. What a privileged year this has been for me!
My extensive administrative experience has told me you can’t decide on a course of action until you determine what’s been done in the past and what needs to be done differently in the future. As your State Senator, if I’m to fulfill my promise of community, compromise, consensus and commitment I owe it to you to come into office armed with knowledge, vision and the tools in place to affect change.
People want a State Senator they can stop on the street and ask a question, that they can count on to listen, that they can find at community meetings and gatherings, and that they can turn to when they have a problem. You may have seen me this past year at a meeting, walking your streets, shopping in local businesses, or even waving my sign on the side of the road. If I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting you, please contact me and share your ideas for Cecil and Hartford Counties. Unlike my opponent who has other employment, this new responsibility will be my singular focus. Therefore, my promise to you as your State Senator is to continue to be this accessible- and accountable.
Now, I am asking that you take time from your busy schedule and Vote on November 4th. Thank you.
With gratitude,
Bridget E. Kelly
