Movies 2021

 Movies 2021

Elizabeth Is Missing- Glenda Jackson should get an Academy Award for her role as a woman slipping away with her Alzheimer.

Hope Gap- I like both of these actors but I am not sure I liked this movie.

The Innocent- a group of nuns are raped by Russian soldiers and are filled with shame as they try to figure out what to do with these unwanted pregnancies.

Lemon- Lemon Anderson is a three time convicted felon who is a poet and his work is wonderful. I would love to see his play in NYC.

Crime After Crime- this was a horrible story of a woman who was the victim of domestic violence and she worked with gang members to help her husband learn a lesson.  They killed him and she was charged with 1st degree murder.  She was never allowed to enter information about the restraining orders and incident of abuse.

News of the World- I usually really like Tom Hanks movies but this one was just OK.

The Prom- this was a fun, feel good movie. It is best to watch this movie if you need an uplifting moment.

The Trial of the Chicago 7- I had to watch this movie twice because it was so maddening to see and I needed to do a little reading about the Chicago riots of 1968 so that I could better understand the players in this historic event.

Nomad Land- I read the book and absoletlytx loved it so I could hardly wait for this movie to be released and the movie was a wonderful as I had anticipated.

Land- this movie just didn't grab me.  It's the story of a grieving woman who escapes to the wilderness in hopes of dying or finding herself, whichever came first.  The movie was medicare and she should have watched the Mountain Men TV series where she could have learned a few survival skills.  She lived in bear country and roamed just slightly away from her home without a gun and a bear got in her house and she hide outside while the bear ate all of her food. And then things got worse for her before they got better.

The Octopus Teacher- OMG, this was a beautiful movie.  The cinematography was stunning and the story was memorizing. I watched it a second time just because it was so beautiful.

The Professor and the Mad Man- a movie about the history of the Oxford dictionary.

The Father- this movie was so well written.  It's the story of an old father who is slipping in to dementia and the story is written to be so confusing that I couldn't tell which scene was reality or dementia.

Judas and the Black Messiah- yet another movie that shows the fine line between the corruption of crime and the law.

The Courier- this was a great movie about friendship and loyalty.

Ma Raimsey and the Black Bottom- I didn't particularly like this movie.

The Mitchells and the Machine- this was an outdoor community movie.  While I didnt like the movie, I loved being able to sit outside and watch a movie.

In The Heights- this was a fun, energetic, feel good movie.  I want to watch it again.

Gunda- It was good if you like to watch a lot raw footage of pigs and other farm animals. The photograph was superb but I left after 90 minutes.  I had seen enough of pigs and other farm animals eat, grunt and hatch babies.

Pig- this movie was well done but I didn't like the story.

Truffles Hunters- I spent the afternoon watching old men hunt for mushrooms.

Stillwater- I thought Matt Damion was good but I didn't love this movie.

Athrea Franklin- I can not understnad how women can stay with abusuve men.

The French Dispacther- Wes Anderson's new movie was consistnet with his quirky quality but I had trouble following some of the story.

The Rescue- This was a great movie.  Even though I knew the outcome, I was on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what comes next.

Found- This was the story of the nagging pain and sorrow of adoptions.  Three Chinese girls searched to find their parents who gave them up for adoption as China imposed the one-child policy.  I think the USA and China should enter in to an agreement to provide DNA testing for all those who were affected by this policy.

Belfast- The movie was set in the early 1970's when Belfast was such a war zone.  Now I want to go to Belfast to see how much relationships between the Catholics and the Protestnasts have improved.

King Richard- Richard Williams was both a genius and a kook and he raised two outstanding tennis players.

Julia Child- OMG, I loved this movie.  I left the theatre feeling joyful.

Vice- this movie came out a few years ago but it is a frightening take on how Vice president Cheyney handled his role as the VP.
