Project Updates

SIAS University

Henan Province, China

Spring 2013

During the spring of 2012, I taught leaderships skills to a small group of women in China.  As part of this program, each woman had to coordinate a service project. Gloria, one of our students,  is a little older than the other students.  She is 23 or 24 and a junior which means that she did not go to college right after high school.  This is very unusal in China.  Gloria has a kindness that is heart warming and inspiring.  Every time she does some kind act, she berates herself for not doing more. As she was finishing up her project,  she wrote to several of us, looking for our advice:

I've changed some words and get the resources we need clearer. Longing for your advice.

SA:
The Sunshine Angels aims at building up a bridge between physically and mentally challenged kids and other people in the society so that people can find a way to help the kids and the kids will be easily integrated into the society.
We begin with a local school named the Special Education School, where students are mainly from 8 to 15 years old. 12 of them are hearing-impaired, visual-impaired; around 60 are mentally challenged. We’ve kept weekly visits to the School and built up a good relationship with the kids; now we’re working on providing them with more educational activities. As well, we make a commercial plan on their outcomes so that they can fully express their value and embrace the society.

Help we need might be bikes, mentors specialized in special education, occupational training for challenged kids. Supplies the kids love might be coloring books, newspapers with Chinese Pinyin, craft materials, stickers, building blocks and other educational toys. Everything for kids is appreciated. More ideas are highly welcomed!

CTS:
The Creative Thinkers Society aims at providing a comfortable environment for people to think critically and creatively and to gain problem-solving skills. We start from a small team in Sias International University and focus on thinking over problems and possible solutions creatively to develop ourselves as leaders of social action groups. In the second phase, we will put the potential solutions into reality and work toward positive outcomes on major social initiatives in our local community.

You might like to help us by being a team sponsor to guide us in building a solid team and provide us with inspiring books and stories, enlightening perspectives, exercises of thinking creatively and other equipment, like a transportable projector and multiple flipcharts .

here are lists of resources we might need.

SA: 12 bikes, mentors specialized in special education, occupational training for challenged kids; coloring books, newspapers with Chinese Pinyin, craft materials, stickers, building blocks and other educational toys.

CTS: a transportable projector, multiple flipcharts, donation for sample experiment, enlightening books.
Good night!
