A Text Conversation with One of My Bangladesh Students

I taught in Bangladesh for the month of December 2019.  I still hear from my students on a regular basis and this is a recent conversation I had with one of my students:

HER:  Hi dear Miss Hope you're doing well.  I miss you❤️

ME: I miss you too. Why are you up so late?

HER: For having sahoor for fasting tomorrow and performing Salah (prayer).

ME: Why are you fasting? Didn’t you just finish Ramadan?

HER: Yeah...there are some other fasts which we do.

ME: For how long?

HER:  It's not bounded actually.  People do 6.  I'm  doing some which i  missed during Ramadan.

ME: how much time do you have to make up?

HER: Didn't get your question.  Like how long we fast?

ME:  how many fasts do you have to make up?

HER:  Or how many days i need to fast?

ME:  yes to both questions.

HER: And i will do it for 20 days more inshaAllah.  But I'm not gonna do it regularly. I will take  breaks between this 20days fasting.

ME:  So did you not fast every day during ramadan because you had too many obligations?

HER; No...It's not like that..  Girls can't fast during there periods time and they have to make up when there periods is finish. I didn't fasted for  periods make ups for couple of years, so now as we are home and passing boring time so i thought it would be good   if i complete these. And on the other hand after Eid there are 6days fasting which some people also do. I'm doing that too, It's follow Arabic month Shawwal  like Ramadan

ME:  Ok.

HER:  Good Morning.  Take care😊
