The Front Porch

The Front Porch
Woodbine Avenue
Philadelphia, PA
1963- 1995

We spent hours on this porch.  It covered the entire front of the house but we tended to sit on the left side most of the time.  That is where we had the furniture that could accommodate so many of us.  But sometimes, we brought out multiple card tables and we sat on the right side and had meals there.

Mostly, we drank tea on the porch.  We would finish dinner and my mother would ask someone to put the kettle on and we would all jump up and take action.  Someone got enough cups for all of us. Someone found the tea pot.  The milk and sugar were added to a serving tray.  Maybe someone scrounged up some cookies for dessert.  And then we wandered off to the porch to secure a seat and we sat there in conversation for long periods of time.

We spent hours on this porch.
