Port of Entry for the Continents
No one has asked for my opinion but I will give it anyway. If I had to recommend which countries should be the port of first entry for people who do not travel much or are not very adventurous, here is what I would recommend
Europe: Italy, of course. The food, the people, the historical sites, the beauty, David and Michelangelo, the art and the ease of getting around make this a great first country in Europe.
Asia- Thailand- this country is filled with grace and natural beauty. The influence of Buddhism is everyone and undeniable. The food is delicious and the hospitality is second to none.
South American- Argentina- Tangos, busy streets, great foods, colorful people, enjoyable climate and great music. Buenos Aries is a feel good city.
North American- East Coast and Philadelphia in particular. This city sits in the middle, between New Your City and Washington, DC. It is two hours to the Atlantic Ocean and two hours to the mountains. It is accessible, cheaper than the other cities and filled with national history.
Africa- Egypt- the ancient artifacts are worthy of every one's attention. You can't go to the Pyramids without being humbled by the magnitude of human suffering that must have gone in to the building of these monuments.
Australia- Cairns and the Great Coral Reef. There are no words to describe the beauty of the reef. I only got out to the reef one day. But I wish I had stayed longer in this city and traveled to the reef several times.
Antarctica- While you can't stay on this continent unless you are committed to some sort of government research project, you can take a ship there. And I would recommend Quark Expeditions. The ship is small enough to get in to hidden bay areas but large enough to offer plenty of amenities and other services that make this a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
Caribbean Seas- Bermuda- This country is clean, pleasant, picturesque and has lots of things to do.
