Following the Law

Following The Law
Philadelphia
1975

In 1975, I was 20.  The drinking age in New Jersey was 18.  In Pennsylvania, it was 21.  At that time, my family lived in Philadelphia and had a summer home on Long Beach Island in New Jersey.

When we were at the beach house, my father let those of us who were 18 and older to drink there.  But when we returned to Philly, we were not allowed to have a drink there.  As he would tell us, "In this house, we follow the law."  That was the end of the discussion.
