The Old Johnny Walker Box
From India to Albany to Philadelphia and finally to Newark
When I was cleaning out my great aunt's house in 2000, I found this old Johnnie Walker box. It was filled with ceramic figurines of Indian people. Each figurine was wrapped in newspapers that dated back to 1942. I think this box sat in my aunt's basement, untouched, all of these years. Most of the figurines had crumbled to decay. Only a few survived throughout all of these dark, damp, musty years. I gave the figurines to friends who had traveled to India. But then I didn't know what to do with the box.
After I sat on this box for a number of years, a friend of mine opened a beer store in Newark, DE. I offered it to him and he jumped at my offer. Now he has it and the box sits proudly on display at the entrance of his store. He's received several offers to buy the box which is now 70 years or older. He tells me, "I don't care what they offer me, I'm keeping this one".
