Music
I am an audiophile.
In my lifetime, I have purchased vinyl albums, 45s, cassettes, 8-Tracks, CD and downloads. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars on lost music. I have purchased and then gotten rid of transistor radios, radios, cd players, turn tables, worthless 8 track players, cassette players, dual cassette players, MP3 players, speakers, CD holders, CD carrying cases, walkman players, etc, etc, etc. I am not spending any more money on music in my life time.
Four years ago, I uploaded my entire CD collection and then gave away hundreds of my CDs to my local library. I threw out my cassette tapes and i gave away all but a few albums. It was a freeing experience. Too bad my system crashed and I lost most of my music. Oh well, now I only have 10,000 songs on a backup disc.
I have a hard copy of every album Joni Mitchell ever released.
I hate Christmas music but I like some gospel music.
My sisters and I shared a bed room when we were very young. Every night, Kathy sang for us. My favorite song was "Traveling Man" by Rickie Nelson. I thought that was a beautiful song.
I went to my first concert in college to see John Maynard. I didn't really know him but all of my friends were going and I didn't want to be left behind. I didn't really like the concert and I thought it was too damn expensive for my budget. But that's the price you pay as a young person when you want to appear cool.
I saw the last show the Grateful Dead played together in San Fransisco, CA. It was right before Jerrie died.
At one time, I had a first edition copy of Mickey Hart's book Planet Drum. It was signed by him. I tried to encourage my local library to run a contest targeted towards reluctant readers the high school. A kid who read the most books in a certain period of time would win the book. "That's a really great idea," the librarian told me, "but we don't have the capacity to do that." I gave this book to a friend who loved the Grateful Dead. He told me, "I will never give this book away, I promise you. I'll give to my kids."
