Bus Monitor- China

Bus Monitor
Shanghai, China
Spring 1994

School let out and we were in the middle of that universal chaos when kids are released for the day and free to get away from the restraints of school.  Most of them took the bus home.  The buses were already crowded with the 1 billion other bus travelers in China.  So this particular stop had someone who aided the kids as they attempted to get on the  bus.

As the kids climber their way in to the jam-packed bus, some old man did his best to push them in as far as he could. He pushed a kid in, deep in to the crowd, picked up the next kid, pushed him in and did this until the driver would not tolerate any more delay. Kids who were left behind just waited for the next bus.

After about three bus runs, all the kids got in and the man went home.  I guess this was the Chinese version of the School Crossing Guard.
