• First Day of school- for almost 30 years, the excitement of a new school year never got old. I was always happy to see everyone again.
Delaware Water Gap Jazz Festival, PA- This festival is the longest running Jazz Festival in the USA that is managed by all volunteers. My good friend, Rick Chamberlain, was one of the original organizers of this monumental event. I've gone a few times with Darcy, his wife. We start by going to the Deer Head Inn, the epicenter of the festival. Jazz musicians, from all over the east coast, stop in and jam with each others for long, long improv sessions. I'm pretty good at listening to a piece for 5 or 6 minutes, then my interest wanes just a bit. By 10 minutes, all of my interests in the piece are gone and i now start a conversation with Darcy. She tries to silence me but the beer I have consumed trumps my good manners. Eventually, Darcy joins my conversation and whispers loudly to me. Then someone shushes us and we laugh so hard, we have to leave.
• The days begin to get shorter. At night, I need a sweater. My garden begins to disintegrate.
• Labor Day Weekend- the migration flight of the monarch butterflies. Thousands of butterflies would make their way through our yard on Long Beach Island, NJ.
High School Football season kicked off and encumbered much of my time.•
- 1956- September 9- Sharon's bday.
- 1961- I started first grade at St. Raymond's School- PA
- 1962- I started 2nd grade at Our Lady of Lourdes School- PA
- 1967- I started 7th grade at Mater Misercordia Academy- PA
- 1973- I started Brandywine Junior College- Wilmington, DE
- 1982- September 8- John's bday
- 1984- I started work at Jenkintown High School- PA
- 1988- I started work at Stroudsburg Big School- PA
- 2001- 9/11: a very tough day for everyone.
- 2010- my first September of retirement. After 30 years in the public schools system, I sat home on this day.
- 2013- Fashion Week in NYC. Kathy and I were guest at Ralph Rucci’s show.
- 2014- I was running for public office and spent all of my time knocking on doors.
- 2016- Pope Francis came to Philadelphia.
- 2017- September 9- Kevin married Emily. It was a great day!!!
- 2018- England, Wales, Jersey
