Mt. Sharon

Mt. Sharon Cemetery

Springfield Road
Springfield, PA

Tucked away in Springfield, PA, in the middle of a very Catholic neighborhood is a Jewish Cemetery.  When I read the headstones, I don find anyone buried before 1924.  So these people must have been the Jews who came from Europe before Hitler came into power.  The cemetery has a very European feel with very narrow spaces between headstones.  Some spots are so tight, it does seem possible to have an adult body in the space.

Much of the cemetery is poorly maintained The place feels abandoned.  But there is evidence of new bodies moving in on an irregular basis.

I used to live near this place and it served as a shortcut  from the busy Springfield Ave to my house.  So I frequently cut through this place, this ghost town.  As I cut through the narrow roads, I saw the Gottlieb family and the Schwartz family and the Weiss's headstones sink in to decay.
