Social Media in China

Social Media in China

Beijing, China
February, 2012

I got to my hotel in Beijing with no problem so I went to the internet to send a message to my family. I wanted to let them know I arrived safely.  Getting access to the internet was not a big problem.  The system was slow but I had time to wait. But I couldn’t access Facebook or LinkedIn or Twitter or Stumble Upon or You Tube or my blog.  Suddenly, my world became very isolated.

I can’t access the BBC or the NY Times or Voice of America or Huffington Post.  But I can get the China Daily newspaper and everything is going well in China today. Things are going poorly for the rest of the world, particularly in the USA. We are going to hell.

I think I need to accept that I am in a Communist country and this isolation is out of my control.
