Movies
- · Straight Outta Compton- this is not my world.
- · Spotlight- It’s maddening to think of how many priests were harbored as they preyed on kid after kid.
- · Train Wreck- I know people loved this movie but I thought it was dull and predictable.
Books: mostly, I
am listening to audio books. I take a
lot of road trips so listening to these books helps me pass the time:
- · Cutting for Stone- A few friends recommended this book to me. I started reading it but I couldn't get passed the first 20 pages. After three attempts, I surrendered. I mentioned this to a friend of mine and she told me to give up on the book. I gave it enough effort. "What was the book?" she asked. "Cutting for Stone", I told her. "Oh my God, I loved that book. You have to read that book. It is so good." She insisted I try again. So I did. But the time, I got an audio copy of the book. Again, I couldn't get passed the first disc. But I persisted and eventually got sucked in to the storyline . I listened to the whole story and loved it. When I finished the story, I had a burning desire to donate a piece of my liver to someone.
- · Me Talk Pretty- David Sedaris is a clever and entertaining writer. I've read or listened to everything he has written to date.
- · The Joy Luck Club- I never get tired of this story. I've red the book, listened to the audio book and watched the movie a few times. I've read everything she has written.
- · The Great Gatsby- I used to love this book. Now I think it is boring.
Travels-
- · I turned 60 and spent my birthday on the Ganges River in Varanasi, India;
- · I spent Christmas in Quebec, Canada;
- · I taught in China again in November;

News Events
- · Hillary Clinton’s email server: much ado about nothing.
- · Nepal Earthquake: On April 25, an earthquake of magnitude of 7.8 hit Nepal and devastated the country and broke our hearts. Coincidently, my niece and her husband were in Nepal at the time of the quake. They had to leave the country.
- · Black Lives Matter- after yet another police killing, African Americans and others rose up to say “enough is enough.” I can't imagine how afraid some people are of the police.
Family/friends:
- · Rick Chamberlain died of cancer in March;
- My cousin's wife, Joy, died suddenly in March. On the day of her funeral, my friend, KT, had her first granddaughter, Alexis Joy.
- · Joe Santoro died of cancer in November;
- · Charlene Frable died of cancer in December.
- My niece gave birth to a beautiful little girl- June Lenore.
- I met President Barack Obama.
- For my 60th birthday, I made a list of 60 things I wanted to do to make this year memorable.
- I reached 200,000 miles on my 2003 Honda Element. My goal is 250,000.
