Road Trip 2023 #6
Erie, PA
March 11- 14, 2023
I had a bad cold and actually, I think I had covid because it took me almost two weeks to get better.
I registered for the three day Bird Festival in Persque Isle State Park.
On Friday, there was nothing I wanted to do at the festival so I drove through the ark to get my bearings. I did register to take a pontoon ride on Sunday morning.
On Saturday, I had no energy to take any of the hikes so I drove through the park again and looked for the pontoon launch site so that I would know where to go on Sunday.
There was one beach filled with huge kites. So I stopped and took photos. I decided to loop through the park again and come back to the beach to see if there were any new kites. But all fo the kites were gone when I made my way back.
On Saturday evening, there was a guest speaker at the dinner. He is a renown urban birder from England and now I want to go to Sedan to see all of the owls he showed us.
My attention during dinner was reoccupied with he fact that most of the exit doors were chained shut. In the past, I worried about getting out in case of a fire. Now I also worry about getting out in case of a mass shooting.
My pontoon ride on Sunday was at 11AM. I still didn't feel well and it was windy so I worried about motion sickness. I didn't go. I drove home.
I was able to visit three breweries:
Erie Brewing Company
Back Monk Brewery
John **** Brewery
All in all, I would say that the bird festival was a bust for me.
