The Rookery
Day Trip 2022- #6
Ocean City, NJ
July 5, 2022
- I went to see the rookery again. I was here five weeks ago, just as all of the eggs were laid.
- The eggs have now hatched and there are two to four little, very active babies in each nest.
- Some of the babies look as if they are ready to try flying.
- In addition to ibis, egrets and herons, I saw a few new birds that I could not idneitfy.
- There were more people here than the last time I was here. There were more serious photographers there as well.
- The temperature was perfect: not too sunny, not too hot. There was a slight breeze.
- The bottome section was closed to the public. The last time I was here, I couldn't find the path to the lower leverl. I wish I had. It would have brought me eye level with some of the nest.
- The battery of my good camera was dead and I was so damn mad at me. My cell phone was just not adequate enough to take the photos I wanted to take. I am going to have to come back.
- There were black ibis and red ibis. I am going to have to look up more infromation on them. And some of them had beaks that were so red. They were alomost a blood red.
- On the way home, I stopped at the Somers Point Brewery. All of my beers were delicious.
