Snow Geese
I have an obsession. I love to watch snow geese. I've been searching for them for about 15 years. I saw a segment about them on 60 Minutes and I went looking for them along the Eastern Shore of Maryland. And sure enough, I found them in Galen, MD. There were thousands and thousands of them just sitting and shitting on some farm there. They were loud and everywhere. I tried to take a photo of the whole group and it was impossible.
Now, I look for them every year and even though they look the same every year, I never grow tired of being them, being with them.
They start showing up for me around mid-December when they come to Bombay Hook Wildlife Refuge in Delaware. I go there several times to see them. And then, around mid-January, they leave that area and I done know where they go.
But, March 1st, they show up at Middle Creek Reservation in PA, about 100 miles up the road. They hang on a 40,000 acre pond and hang there for the month. And then they are gone, almost like they have an exact checkout time.
I don't know where they go next. I may have to go searching for them.
