63 Books

63 Books

I had a lot of trouble with reading when i was a kid.  I still do.  I am dyslexic. So it took a long time before I clicked with reading,  It wasn't until I was in 3rd grade (1963) that i began to read with any fluency.  And that is still misleading.  I went to reading programs until I entered high school.

But I did learn to love reading.  And I used to read a book a week during most of my adult life.  But then I had an incident in my home which destroyed all of me furniture: my reading chair, my ottoman, my reading lamp, among many other things.  And I never replaced the chair and I slipped away form reading.

But this year, I am returning to reading.  I am reading 63 books during my 63rd year.

  • Fear- Bob Woodward- OMG, this book made me so angry.
  • Hi Bob- Bob Newhart- I streamed this book and his old man voice distracted me from the story.
  • A River of Darkness- Masaji Ishikawa
  • West Cork- Sam Bungey- I had a hard tome following this story.
  • Born a Criminal- Trevor Noah
  • Slow Burn- Richard Nixon- podcast
  • Slow Burn- Bill Clinton- podcast
  • Bag Man- Rachel Maddow- podcast- OMG, Agnew was such a crook.
  • Patti Smith at the Minetta- Patti Smith- I loved this story.
  • Have A Nice Day- Billy Crystall- some times I like this guy and other times I don't.
  • Waiting to Be Heard- Amanda Knox- I knew this story but I didn't have many of the details.
  • Out of My Mind- Alan Arkin
  • Out of Arica- Isak Dineson
  • Educated- Tara Westover- some families are so fucked up.
  • Last Seen- a podcast- the story of the largest art theft in history.  Two men stole $500,000,000 worth of art over 20 years ago and there is no hint as to where these 13 paintings are.
  • Big Sur- Jack Kerouac- I like his writing style.
  • The Third Wife- Lisa Jewell- I had a hard time staying with this story.
  • Folsom Untold- Danny Robins- The soy of Johnnie Cash's concert in a prison was more interesting than I wld have thought.
  • Bones- Tae Myenne N
  • When The Emperor Was Divine- Julie Otsuka
  • Gifts From The Sea- Anne Morrow Lindberg- I've read this book 3 times.  I think that is enough.
  • A Patch of Blue- I loved with book with I was a teenager.  I thought it was so moving.
  • Family Affair- Russell Banks
  • Beasts in My Bed- Jacqui Durrell- she was a very understanding wife.
  • Men Without Women
  • Where the Crawdads Sing-- Delia Owens- the main character just wasn't believable to me.
  • The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane- Lisa See - I like stories about strong Chinese women.
  • Looking for Alaska- John Greene.- I loved, loved, loved this book.  I love a story about high school kids.  This could be the new Catcher in the Rye.
  • Everything I Never Told You- Celeste Ng
  • I Know I Am, But What Are You- Samantha B-
  • Just Kids- Patti Smith- OMG, this was an interesting story.
  • The Ones We Choose- Julie Clark- this book was just OK.
  • The Curious Incident of the Dog At Night- Mark Haddon- I recently saw the play and I liked the play better.  It was easier to see his autism in the play.
  •  Where'd You Go, Bernadette- Marie Semple
  • We're Going to Need More- Gabrielle Union- I don't know anything about this actress.  I am going to have to look her up.
  • Rival Frenemies who Changed the World-  Scott McCormick

  • Nomandland- Jessica Bruder- I loved this book.  We are in a financial crisis in our country.
  • We Hope for Better Things- Erin Bartels-
  • When Breathe Becomes Air- Abraham Verges- this book was excellent.
  • A Mind of her Own- Matthew Iden- A great, easy read about Marie Curie, the human.
  • Convenience Store Woman- Sayaka Murata- This simple book tells a complex story.
  • Thick- Tressie McMillian- This book shamed me, insulted me and made me defensive.
  • The 100 Year Old Man- Jonas Jonasson- the character was too unbelievable.
  • Culpable- a podcast- it was riveting
  • The Winter Over- Matthew Iden- there were too many flaws in the nuances of Antarctic but the story was interesting
  • My Lost Family- Danny Ben-Moshe- its the story of a woman whose husband takes their two children out fro the day and never returns and then years later, she reconnects with them.
  • 438 Days: An Extraordinary True Story of Survival at Sea- Jonathan Franklin
  • From Here to Eternity- Caitlin Dougherty- an interesting read on how different cultures bury their dead.
  • The Fire Next Time- James Baldwin-  this man had a very bright mind
  • Lying - Sam Harris- I lie all the time.

  • The Overdue Life of Amy- I listened to most of this book and then quit it as it was too boring.
