The Rooftop View
Marrakesh, Morocco
July 2008
I spent the afternoon, wandering through the narrow, dark, conjested alleyways of the Old City. There was so much to see and the streets were so winding that I was quickly disoriented. But it didn't matter. It was early in the afternoon and too early to worry about ever getting back to my hotel.
I walked in to one store and sat and sat and talked with the merchants. They brought me tea and I gave them gum and we talked politics about our upcoming presidential elections. They were cheering for the black man: Obama.
I got up to leave and one of the small boys asked me if I wanted to see a beautiful site. He led me up several flights of steps that were cluttered with merchandise. Finally, we got to the top and I got my first glimpse of this landscape. It was so colorful, bright and beautiful.
