Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania

I've lived in Pennsylvania for most of my life and I really like this state.  I lived in Maryland for five years and I could hardly wait to come home again. I feel lucky to live here again. Here's why:

Penn State University- I have three degrees from this university.

I worked in several school systems:
  •      Loyalsock High School- Williamsport (Lycoming Co)
  •      Jenkintown High School- Jenkintown (Montgomery Co)
  •      State College School Disgrict- State College (Centre)
  •      Stroudsburg High School- Stroudsburg (Monroe)
  •      Springfield high School- Springfield (Delco)

The Main Point- Bryn Mawr-this music venue was around when I was in high school.  It was here that I heard lots of music that never made it to the radio.

The Delaware Jazz Festival- the longest running jazz festival organized strictly by volunteers.  My friend, Rich Chamberlain, started this festival 40 years ago.

McGillian's Old Ale House

Touchstone Arts Institute- Pittsburgh area- I've taken several workshops here and I leave feeling as if I am an artist.

Pittsburgh- this is a great city with lots to do and see. every time I go to Pittsburgh, I have a good time.

Route 6 is an enjoyable ride through the northern tier of the state.

Philadelphia has lots of breweries and you can get to them without having to drive.

It's close to the mountains, the beach, NYC and DC.

I don't have to pay state tax on my pension.

Washington crossed the Delaware River on Christmas Day.  The scene is re-enacted every year but I have never seen it.

The Declaration of Independence was signed in Philadelphia.  It is the birthplace of our nation.

There are some great universities in PA.

I now live in Chester County, right outside of Philly.

Hawk Mountain is a great place to see hawks (of course).

Centralia is a deserted town that is burning up below the surface.  If you want to spend an afternoon in a creepy town, this is the place to visit.

Two Popes have visited here and I saw them both.

Eastern State Penitentiary- a very interesting historical site to visit.

Most of my family still lives in the Philly area.
