Blue Ball Monkey

Blue Ball Monkeys
Tanzania
February 2016

As we started our safari, Walter, our guide, warned us, "Watch out for the blue ball monkeys.  They can be vicious. They will come right up to you and steal your food."

I thought he was playing with us.  Monkeys don't have blue balls. But I watched for them.  And I didn't see them.  So I reminded Walter every day that we still hadn't seen any monkeys with blue balls.

"Oh, we will see them, I promise you", he assured me.

Well, we didn't see any of them while we were on safari.  But days later, as we are relaxing at a lovely resort right outside of  Dar el Salem,  I hear some rustling in the trees.  I look up and staring as me was a monkey with bright, bright, bright blue balls. OMG.  I yell to the others with such delight that they come running.  And we photograph this damn monkey to the point that he becomes uncomfortable with all of the attention he is receiving so he runs off and hides.

Later that day, we are sitting by the pool, enjoying our afternoon snack. We are staring off in to space when our tea cups rattle.  Sneaking up behind us was a blue ball monkey stealing our sandwiches.

I hate monkeys.
