Ship Life

Ship Life
SS Universe
Semester At Sea Program
Institute for Shipboard Education
Spring 1994

I traveled for a semester on the SS Universe in 1994.  We visited 12 ports and saw things that I had never seen before.  The people were great.  And the ship life was fun  if our journey was for three days or less. But some of our journeys took ten days and that was very difficult for me. Once we left port, we didn't see anything again until we were fifteen minutes in to the next port.

The ship got very confining and my attention span disinagrated expodentially.  I am a person who has to go somewhere every day.  Some days I just felt trapped on this ship which seemed to shrink in size with each passing day. But once we reached a new port, all of that uneasiness dissipated, just as labor pains do after the baby is born.

I was free again to roam new territories and see new things. And the ten days soon were viewed as well worth the wait.

Crossing the hemisphere

Watching the sun set

Polluting the World

Pulling in to a harbor

Yes, we are eliminating all of this pollution
