• "OK, madame, you go down these steps.  But be careful, no railing and they slippery.  Go through the tunnel.  You have flashlight.  You need flashlight. And the bats will not bit you.  Do not worry about the bats.  Then you get to the river. It is beautiful.". - man on the street

• "No worry madame. I cook your food not to spice if you like.  It OK, not too spicy for you." The cook at the hotel

• "Nameste, madame"- everyone

• "Driving rickshaw is hard, hard work Madame. Your hotel man doesn't know when he say I should only be paid 50 rupees."- Rickshaw driver
• 
  
• "You are so smart for a grandmother. Usually, senior citizens do not think too much. But you are smart."  A young man trying to sell me something which I did not buy.

• "Do you know our new president? He is a good man. He has no family so that means he just makes decisions that are good for India not just good for his family."- young man, trying to get me to hire him as my personal guide.

• "America is the best country in the whole world", he tells me.  I politely tell him that his country and other countries are wonderful as well.  "There are a lot of beautiful places in this world ", I tell him.   "No. but America is best and you want to know why?" He apses so I nod and he responds, "Because you have Obama as your president.  The world loves Obama."  -Hotel clerk
