Beer Camp

Sierra Nevada Brewery Beer Camp

Chino, California

Summer 2014

I saw this camp advertised somewhere and loved the idea immediately. I hated camp as a kid but now I think I finally found a camp I might just enjoy: Sierra Nevada BEER CAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!    What a great idea. Campers come for a specific time, hang out at the brewery and are allowed to fool around with their own recipes. If the final product is worthy enough, a small batch is made and available to the public.  I am signing up.

FOLLOW UP: Of course, I never followed up and it was never offered again.  Opportunity missed.  Add this one to the list of thousands.

The Street Banners

The Street Banners
Center County Celebration of the Arts
State College, PA
July 15, 2022

Maybe there were 300 artists here at this event, mostly from all over the USA but some from other parts of the world.  This festival had taken a 2 year hiatus to address Covid impositions.  The crowd was so happy to welcome the artists back.  The streets were packed and the moment was joyful.  And I spent my afternoon, looking up and photographing the street banners.

Bird Year

Bird Year

2022

This year was a very good bird year for me.

January- A Mandarin Duck was spotted in a local state park in Philly in December 2021and he captured everyone's attention.  He teamed up with a local wild wood duck.  They just floated around all way long, obvious to al the attention they were causing. Local birders speculated that this duck was probably someone's illegal pet who got away.  So I went to see him on January 1 and by January 4, he was dead.  He just died suddenly. And the birding community grieved for this beautiful bird.

February- I flew to CO to the Monta Vista Bird Refuge to see the migration of the Sandhill Cranes and the moment was more thrilling than I had anticipated.  They were magnificent and 5000 strong. We got up at 530 AM and went down to their pond and watched them leave for the day.  Then we came back at 6PM and watched them return for  the day.

March- Snow geese come to Middle Creek Reserve in  PA every year and I go to see them a couple of times each year. And these sighting never, ever disappoint.  They come in flocks of 100,000 and when they take off and soar through the air, I get so damn excited.

April- A Snowy White Owl spent a few months in Lancaster, PA.  People were posting photos of him, on social media,  every day as he roamed around the county.  And he seemed to be smiling in all of his photos. He had a great face.  So I wanted to go find him and I did.  But I forgot my good camera and the only shot I got of him was from quite a distance and he just looked like a big cotton ball.  But I got to see him.  So that is enough for me.

June/July-  Rookery in NJ- my friend posted her photos from this place and I just had to go here.  There is an area right near a very busy bridge in Stone Harbor.  Hundreds of Herons, egrets and ibis were nesting at this site.  I went there three different times and watched as mothers guarded eggs. I watched the eggs go from hatchling to fledging to flying the coup. It was thrilling.

Beer Fact #10

 Beer Fact #10

  • Beer pong was a game invented in the '50s.
This was not a game I ever played in college.  When I was going to school, we had very little expendable cash so every penny we had went to beer, not silly games.

Now that I have some expandable cash, I am too old to drink beer in this fashion.  I would throw up.

Beer pong has passed me by and I am OK with that.

Next Road Trip

Next Road Trip

November 2014

I'm planning a USA road trip. I want to go to Columbia University and meet the young woman carrying her mattress around campus in protest to her rape. Then I want to go to Westboro Baptist Church to talk to some of those church members, then on to Ferguson, Missouri and then to the Texas border where the young Mexican children are crossing the border. Then I want to go to LA to the section of the city where hundreds of homeless live. Then I want to go to Slab City which I think is in NV. Have I missed any other points of conflict in our country?

Well, Bridget E Kelly, how many square miles are there in the U.S.? That pretty much sums up the situation, in my opinion. You would also need to visit my neck of the woods, where a neighbor told me a couple years back that I had bought into the liberal agenda.

And I heard that Boner said that the president's plan to take executive action regarding immigration reform would totally mess up any chance of Congress getting on board. LOLOLOLOLOL

Fabulous trip! Every city sadly has thousands of homeless children. Sacramento is a city where runaways sleep under the freeways. When are you doing this?
