ON THIS DAY
- January 1, 1995- I went to the Rose Bowl game to watch Penn State play. We won but it was a long, hard victory and the game gave me a headache.
- January 3, 2015- I went to the first of the annual Beer Exchange Parties at Deb Green's house.
- January 3, 2022- Travel with Brian and his family to go to Vegas and UT.
- January 5, 1983- My niece Heather is born.
- January 6, 2023- Clay and I are traveling on a train through the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park in Colorado
- January 8, 1994- I flew to the Bahamas to start my 100 day journal around the world on the Semester At Sea program.
- January 9, 2016- I saw the movie, PAN. I love Peter Pan movies.
- January 12, 2015- I spent the night at the Cecil County Rotating Emergency Shelter. It was really cold outside. I was the supervisor for the night and 30 homeless people were so grateful to be inside.
- January 14, 2016- I went to the PA Farm Show. There are lots of farm animals in our world and they all smell.
- January 15, 2021- I start radiation for my uterine cancer. It's hard to believe that I am volunteering to burn the interior of my body.
- January 16, 2015- My hot tub was delivered. This is the 3rd hot tub I have purchased and they keep getting bigger and bigger. I love to soak in my hot tub.
- January 17, 2018- I went to the African American Museum in DC.
- January 8, 2020- Leslie and friends and I participate in the Women's March in Philly.
- January 18, 2022- I drive to Cambridge, MD to see the Harriet Tubman mural.
- January 20, 2017- I went to the Women's March in DC
- January 21, 2018- I went to the Women's March in West Chester, PA
- January 24, 2023- I am in Antigua and loving every minute of this trip.
- January 25, 2016- I took a quick trip to Phoenix, AZ to visit Jerrie Uberle. Her house was so damn sunny that I had to wear sunglasses inside.
- January 27, 2015- I started a blog: Wandering Through America.
- January 28, 2017- I participated in the Immigration Protest @PHL. It was a response to Trump's ban on immigrants. It was frightening to see so many people terrified of our government.
- January 28, 2022- I travel to Barbados, my first international trip since covid.
- January 29, 2020- Lauren and I leave for a cruise through the Caribbean. We had great fun.
- February 1, 2019- I went to Haiti for the 3rd time.
- February 2, 2025- I went to see the play, Come From Away which is a play I have wanted to see for years and loved, loved loved it. It was a tribute to the people of Newfoundland who took care of 7,000 stranded strangers during our 9-11 crisis.
- February 3, 2014- I filed my FEC papers to run for State Senate, District #35 MD.
- February 8, 2016- I left for a three week trip to Tanzania.
- February 12, 2017- I boarded a train in Baltimore, MD and went across the country. Four days later, I was in Evansville, CA.
- February 17, 1970- My brother, Brian, is born. My mother had 6 kids in 7 years and then 11 years later, she gave birth to Brian.
- February 21, 2019- I leave for a one month trip to Jordan, Israel and Palestine.
- February 22, 1994- I was on safari in Kenya.
- February 26, 2022- I travel to Monte Vista, CO to witness the immigration of Sand Hill Cranes
- March 3, 2000- my nephew, Gus, was born, 100 years after my grandfather.
- March 5, 2005- My Dad died.
- March 8, 2008- I bought a 2003 Honda Element for $15,000. It had 47,000 miles on it and when I finally gave it up, it had 244,000+ miles on it. I loved that piece of junk.
- March 10, 2017- I bought my 2014 Honda Civic for less than $15,000 and it only had $12,000 miles on it. What a great deal!!
- March 15, 2018- I visit my 100th brewery.
- March 15, 2020- The world world shuts down for covid.
- March 16, 2020- The whole world shuts down for two weeks in an attempt to stop covid.
- March 17, 1978- I marched in the NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade. I was drunk and I crashed the parade and eventually, two cops kicked me out. But it was a fun time.
- March 17, 2023- I am at the Guinness Brewery in Dublin, Ireland for this momentous day, St Patrick's Day.
- March 19, 1973- St. Joseph's Day. I had off from high school and my school was the only school off so my classmates and I got together and had a party at Maryann Drueding's house. We trashed the place. Her brother came home and raised hell and we scattered. Maryanne got in lots of trouble and none of us came to her defense. We were cowardly. But we did have fun.
- March 19, 1994- I travel to Malaysia on this day.
- March 22, 1987- I defended my damn dissertation at Penn State University. I earned a DEd in Educational Leadership.
- March 23, 1986- My grandmother, Ida, died. She was living in Florida and she had a stroke.
- March 24, 1928- my father was born. He was the 4th son to Ethel and Lawrence Kelly.
- March 26, 2017- I met President Jimmy Carter and his wife. I drove to Plains, GA to meet them. And in 1994, I traveled to Singapore.
- April 4, 1994- I traveled to Japan.
- April 8, 2024- I drive to Rochester, NY to watch the eclipse of the sun. Unfortunately, it was a cloudy day but it was still exciting.
- April 9, 1997- I visited my sister who was living in Spain.
- April 12, 1927- My mother was born in Arlington, VA.
- April 13, 2018- I cross the Mississippi River for the first time. I saw in Minnesota
- April 14, 2018- I went to Minnesota in search of a brewery.
- April 15, 2018- I traveled to Iowa in search of a brewery.
- April 16, 2018- I traveled to Wisconsin in search of a brewery.
- April 17, 2018- I sang with Grammy Award Winning Bobby McFerrin at his church in Mt Airy, PA.
- April 19, 2015- I went to a dog show in Baltimore to watch my friend's dog take a prize.
- April 21, 2025- I left for m trip to Central Asia. I went to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
- April 23, 2016- I went to VA to watch Jameson finish his Eagle Scout project.
- April 24, 2015- I met the President of the United States- Barrack Obama.
- April 26, 1959- My sister, Patricia, was born in Abington, PA.
- April 27, 2015- I wandered around the Redwood Forest in CA.
- April 28, 2023- I was the first recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award at MMA.
- May 2, 2011- I traveled in Guatemala and all of its poverty.
- May 4, 2013- I went to my 40th high school reunion from Merion Mercy Academy, PA.
- May 5, 2018- I went to my 45th high school reunion from Merion Mercy Academy, PA
- May 8, 2011- I sailed through the Panama Canal.
- May 8, 2021- I drive to Larchmont to meet my great niece, GiGi. She was born in July but I couldn't meet her until months later because of covid.
- May 9, 1954- My brother, Jim, was born. And in 1998, my mother died after a long battle with ovarian cancer.
- May 13, 2017- My good friend, Darcy, died after a long battle with cancer.
- May 16, 1981- I graduated from Penn State with an MEd in Secondary School Counseling.
- May 19, 2018- I went to see Paula Poundstone at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, DE. She is very quirky and funny.
- May 19, 2023- I attend Jameson's graduation ceremony for the Fire Fighters' Academy. He graduated first in his class.
- June 2, 2000- I saw Joni Mitchell at the Camden waterfront. This was the third and last time I saw her perform. Shortly thereafter, she retired from public performances.
- June 4, 2016- Deb Green and Lisa Schultz got married and I officiated the wedding.
- June 4, 2019- I drive to Atlanta, GA to see my uncle and aunt whom I haven't seen for 15 years. This would be the last time I see either of them.
- June 5, 1900- My grandfather, John B. Revie was born in Glasgow, Scotland.
- June 6, 2018- Clay and I left for our road trip to the Grand Canyon.
- June 8, 2024- I went to see Bonnie Raitt at the Met in Philly. I think I have seen her at least twice before and one time was in SF.
- June 10, 1973- I graduated from high school. I wasn't sure I was going to make this milestone.
- June 11, 2024- The Rolling Stones were in Philly and I got to see them for the first time and probably for the last time..
- June 13, 2018- I watched the Changing of the Guard Ceremony @ The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
- June 14, 1999- I moved back to the Philadelphia area and became the principal at Springfield High School.
- June 15, 2017- I moved into Chestnut Square Apartments in West Chester, PA.
- June 15, 2021- I am in Hampton Beach, NH and see my first double rainbow. It is so beautiful that I pull over, stop my car and sit there fro 1/2 hour, admitting the beauty of the moment.
- June 16, 2015- I got to see the Divine Miss M in Philly. I love Bette Midler.
- June 22, 2020- I met up with a friend to walk the BLM street mural in Washington, DC. There is a huge police presence as the anger over the George Floyd murder is still in the air, one moth after the incident.
- June 25, 1901- My grandmother, Ida Mae Riley, was born in Leeds, England.
- June 26, 2015- I saw the Cirque du Soleil "O" show in Las Vegas.
- June 27, 1982- I traveled to England for a month. And in 2005, I traveled to Viet Nam.
- June 28, 2019- I am in Borneo, hanging with the orangutans.
- July 3, 2013- I left for Haiti for six weeks where I ran a summer program for the Haiti Family Initiative.
- July 4, 2001- I started my month long safari in South Africa.
- July 5, 2003- I arrived in Sri Lanka. I also traveled to India and the Maldives Islands.
- July 5, 2023- I am at the tip of Maine where I board a small boat and go to a remote island in Canada to see a puffin rookery. It was thrilling
- July 6, 1998- My nephew, Jameson McGirr Kelly, was born in Philadelphia, PA.
- July 7, 2015- I traveled to India to celebrate my 60th birthday along the sacred Ganges River.
- July 9, 1955- I was born. It was a hot, hot Saturday and my mother never stopped telling me how hot she was during my pregnancy.
- July 12, 1992- I traveled to Thailand for three weeks. It was my first visit to Asia.
- July 15, 2001- I traveled to beautiful Botswana.
- July 20, 2021- I am NED!! No evidence of disease. No uterine cancer.
- July 21, 1990- I had a layover in France where I was on my way to Italy.
- July 24, 2001- I was on safari in Zimbabwe. And in 2003, I was on a remote island in the Maldives.
- July 27, 1980- My sister, Sharon, married Glenn Hake. The wedding reception was at hour house on Long Beach Island, NJ.
- August 2, 2017- Elliot, my great nephew was born. Heather is his mother.
- August 3, 2014- I hosted the family Christmas in July Party. It was lots of work and lots of fun.
- August 5, 1962- my family made this day a family holiday: Root Beer Day.
- August 6, 1962- Our family moved to our new home: 6425 Woodbine Avenue. It is a big, old house with 7 bedrooms.
- August 11, 2002- I head into the Amazon River in Peru for a week on the river.
- August 13, 1977- I graduated from Penn State University with a BS in Adolescent counseling.
- August 20, 2016- I went to a concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in CO. This was on my bucket list.
- August 21, 2017- I observed the eclipse of the sun in West Chester, PA
- August 23, 2018- Rocco and I drive up to South Williamsport to see a Little League World Series Baseball game
- September 5, 1973- I started Brandywine Junior College in Wilmington, DE. I stayed there for the academic year and then I transferred to Drexel University.
- September 6, 1967- I started Merion Mercy Academy in Merion Station. I was in 7th grade. This transition was hard for me.
- September 8, 1982- My nephew, John, was born in New York/
- September 9, 1956- My sister, Sharon, was born in Abington Hospital. And in 2017, my nephew, Kevin, married Emily., I became a beer kook and never drank regular beer again.
- September 10, 2011- 9-10-11: Stephanie Schweinberg's wedding on Long Beach Island, NJ. I officiated the wedding and it was a beautiful event.
- September 11, 2004- I became a kayaking kook. I went kayaking for the first time and loves it. I was sorry it took me so long to jump in to this activity. I love being on the water.
- September 13, 2016- I went to the Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany
- September 14, 1996- My sister turned 40 and her husband had a surprise party for her and he served Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. On this day, I never drank a Budweiser again.
- September 17, 2023- I went to Iceland and Greenland.
- September 20, 2018- I leave for Wales and the Isle of Jersey.
- September 21, 2021- Clay runs his first college race for Bradford University and I am there, filled with pride and excitement.
- September 21, 2022- I went to Belfast and Ireland. I got to take an historical black taxi ride through Belfast.
- September 26, 2020- I take a road trip to Upper Michigan. My travel opportunities are limited because of covid.
- September 27, 1979- My sister, Kathy, married Jim Staudt. They moved to West Chester County, NY.
- October 1, 1952- My sister, Kathy, was born. She is the oldest.
- October 2, 2021- I am in downtown Chicago, ready to drive across the country on the historic Route 66. I am 66 so the trip is fitting.
- October 3, 2024- I hiked up the side of the mountain in Volcano National Park (Rwanda) and saw the silverback gorillas
- October 4, 1997- My brother, Brian, married Cindy Glaspey. My father officiated the wedding ceremony at the Union League in Philadelphia.
- October 7, 1974- I started my sophomore year in college at Drexel University, PA.
- October 9, 1957- My young brother, Chris was born in Philadelphia.
- October 10, 2025- I get fucking hearing aides. Old people get hearing aides.
- October 14, 2019- I travel with friends to attend the Celtic Music Festival in Cape Brenton, Canada.
- October 20, 2024- I saw Joni Mitchell at the Hollywood Bowl in CA.
- October 25, 2023- I am at the US Capital where they were electing the next Speaker of the House.
- October 29, 2014- I voted for me for the politic position of State Senate, District #35 MD. I didn't win but it was still thrilling to vote for myself.
- November 1, 2022- For 67 years, I have been a nail biter ad then I just stopped> So, on this day, I went to a nail salon and had my nails done.
- November 3, 2020- I was diagnosed with uterine cancer.
- November 5, 2014 - I lost my election for a state senate position. I did the best I could and I really enjoyed it.
- November 6, 1973- I voted for the first time. I was 18 years old.
- November 9, 2014- I went to Jamaica for a few days. I stayed at an all-inclusive resort and I will never do that again. It's too piggish.
- November 11, 2018- Caitlin married Kevin Quinn.
- November 11, 2022- Quentin marries Brielle in New York.
- November 12, 2017- I left for Nepal for two months to teach leadership skills to college women.
- November 14, 2018- I sold my house in Carpenter's Point, MD. I owed this house for 12 years.\
- November 17, 2018- I go to Churchville, Canada, in the Arctic Tundra to see polar bears. This expensive trip is a bust because the bears had gone off to the Hudson Bay two weeks earlier.
- November 19, 2001- I took my nephew, William, and his family to see the first Harry Potter movie. It was William's bday gift.
- November 24, 2005- I went to Turks and Cacaos Islands. I had plans on buying a condo there but I decided against it.
- November 25, 2017- I fly off to Puerto Rico for a few days.
- November 26, 2015- I celebrated Thanksgiving dinner in China. It was pathetic. In 2018, I had my gall bladder removed.
- November 26, 2019- I arrive in Bangladesh to start teaching leadership skills to students at ULAB.
- November 28, 2006- I bought my house in Carpenter's Point, MD. This was my second home. In 2024, I went to Hawaii, my 50th USA state to visit.
- December 5, 1974- My grandfather, Jack, died at home from a long battle of lung cancer.
- December 5, 2022- Lauren married Mike Blake in Valley of the Fire State Park in Nevada.
- December 6, 2024- I visit the Azures. I know nothing about this place but my grandparents lived here some time during the 1950s.
- December 8, 1980- I am sitting in the Brick House Bar with Deb Green and the bar became silent as it was announced that John Lennon had just been murdered.
- December 11, 1975- I transferred to Penn State University. I was a junior.
- December 16, 2022- With a group of friends, I go to Jake's Bar in West Chester for the first time. This place is a local treasure.
- December 22, 2015- I went to Quebec, Canada with Darcy Chamberlain and her daughters.
- December 25, 1925- My grandparents married. I think they were in Washington, DC.
- December 25, 2017- I travel to Bhutan from Nepal.
- December 27, 1987- My sister, Patricia, married Bill Anderko.
- December 28, 2015- I spent the day at the hospice center with Charlene Frable. She slipped in to a coma while I was there and two days later, she died after a long battle with cancer.
- December 29, 1951- My parents got married in St. John's Church in Philadelphia. And in 1980, Kevin, my first nephew, was born. I became an aunt.
- December 30, 2004- My nephew, Clay Kelly, was born. He is the final niece/nephew.
- December 31, 1979- Spent New Year's Eve on Time Square, NY.
- December 31- 2000- Spent NYE in San Francisco
- December 31, 2003- Spent NYE in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, near Galapagos.
- Decemebr 31, 2009- Spent NYE in Bermuda.
- Decemebr 31, 2017- Spent NYE in Kathmandu, Nepal.
